Tuesday night, the United School Board heard from a parent about the recent investigation into alleged embezzlement of money from the United Music Boosters.
The money was going to be used for a trip to Walt Disney World, where the United Marching Band would get to march and perform in a parade while they were there. Christy Normand, the mother of a high school senior, said that she was disappointed in the fact that students have raised funds for the trip for a long time, and now the trip and all fundraising activities for it have been cancelled.
Acting Superintendent Charles Koren said that law enforcement agencies were contacted, and an investigation is underway. He also said that it’s still very early in the investigation.
In other business, the board accepted with regret the resignation of superintendent Teresa Young. In a letter to the board read by board president Eric Matava, Young said that she had an “unexpected tragic life event” in her life that forced her to resign. The board said they were thankful for the opportunity with her and respect her decision. The board will now focus on finding the next superintendent.
