The NFL has announced that the Steelers’ game against the Browns will kick off at one o’clock on Sunday afternoon, as will the two other games that will help determine the Steelers’ fate for the postseason. That means that by about 4:15 Sunday, we will know if Pittsburgh is in the AFC playoffs or if it’s the Dolphins or Patriots. In order for the Steelers to get in, the Dolphins have to lose to the Jets and the Patriots have to lose to the Bills.
For the Steelers, coach Mike Tomlin will no doubt emphasize at his news conference today that all they can do is their part…beating the Browns, who won the first time the two teams played this season, 29-17, on September 22nd. Cleveland features some potent offensive weapons, including running back Nick Chubb, quarterback DeShaun Watson, and wide receiver Amari Cooper.
Linebacker Alex Highsmith says it all starts with stopping the Browns’ run game.
Highsmith says the Steelers defense is comfortable doing its part to keep opponents off the scoreboard and waiting for Kenny Pickett and the offense to come through.
The Steelers’ injury report today is expected to include updates on linebacker Myles Jack’s groin injury and cornerback James Pierre’s head injury, as well as Minkah Fitzpatrick’s ankle and Kenny Pickett’s head. He took a tough hit in the third quarter on Sunday, and he’s been in concussion protocol twice this season.
The Dolphins say they will start either Teddy Bridgewater or rookie Skylar Thompson at quarterback on Sunday. The Titans will start former Steeler Josh Dobbs at QB for their all-important game against Jacksonville, where the winner takes the AFC South title.
