GIRLS BASKETBALL
Indiana fell to Bethel Park, 62-56 in basketball tournament action at Latrobe yesterday. Eve Fiala scored 17 points to lead Indiana, with Katie Kovalchick adding 13 and Bella Antonacci scoring 11.
In a championship matchup of Heritage Conference schools at the Central Cambria tournament, undefeated Portage outscored Penns Manor, 57-34. The Comets started well, leading 12-6 after one quarter but the Mustangs took the second quarter 14-3 and then took control of the game in the third quarter with a 25-8 surge. Maddy Hudak led Portage with 12 points and Ari Wozniak and Cami Burkett added 11. Allie Mumau topped Penns Manor with 9.
At the Punxsutawney tournament, Hazleton downed Marion Center, 56-41. Mya Lipsie led the Stingers with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Natalie Black and Kaelee Elkin each scored 10.
River Valley downed Connellsville, 71-35. The Panthers took an early 14-0 lead thanks to early full court pressure defense and ended the first quarter up 24-5. At the half, they led 32-19 and put up 26 points in the third quarter.
Ava Persichetti led River Valley with 21 points and seven assists. Hannah Artley notched a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Tori Foust added nine points, and freshman Alessia LeMantia had five points and five steals.
BOYS BASKETBALL
In Natrona Heights yesterday, Indiana took the St,. Joseph’s tournament with a 62-52 win over Valley. For the second straight night, Gavin Homer led Indiana in scoring, dropping in 21 points. Evan Brocius scored 13 and Stanford Webb 11.
United opened play at the Boswell Jaycees Tournament with a 70-56 win over Somerset. Brad Felix was one of four Lions players in double figures, with 20 points. Dylan Dishong scored 16, Joe Marino 14, and Isaac Worthington 11.
At Apollo Ridge, River Valley came alive in the second half, outscoring the host Vikings by 21 points to take a 63-45 win. Dom Speal led the way for the Panthers with 18 points and Jayden Whitfield scored 11. Jake Mull had 21 for Apollo Ridge.
At the Purchase Line Lions Tournament, Northern Cambria beat Purchase Line, 46-18.
