The Penguins can’t seem to find a way to beat Carolina, and last night it was a bad play in overtime that led to the latest loss to the Hurricanes. Paul Steigerwald recaps the game.
The winning goal by the Hurricaes came in a 3-on-3 in overtime when Evgeni Malkin chased after Jacob Slavin behind the ‘Canes net, and Slavin simply beat Malkin up the ice to create a 3-on-2, slipping the puck past goaltender Tristan Jarry. Malkin took complete responsibility for the error on the forecheck. Coach Mike Sullivan said it was a play you can’t attempt.
Sullivan says the Penguins have not played well in overtime all season long, and it’s cost them in the standings.
While he is disappointed with the outcome last night, Sullivan says he loves the makeup of his team.
The Penguins will take four days off from all hockey activities before returning for practice on Tuesday.
