Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington told reporters yesterday that he still wants to add another starting pitcher and a position player to the 40-man roster before the start of spring training in February.
Cherington has been busy in the offseason, adding free agent first baseman/DH Carlos Santana, catcher Austin Hedges, and Jarlin Garcia, trading for first baseman/DH Ji-Man Choi, outfielder/first baseman Connor Joe and pitchers Vince Velazquez and Dauri Moreta, and claiming off waivers outfielder/third baseman Ryan Vilade.
He also said he expects the team’s young players to continue to mature and develop, making the Bucs stronger and deeper.
