The Penguins hit the ice at PPG Paints Arena fresh from having their seven-game winning streak snapped in Carolina, taking on a talented New York Rangers team which last season eliminated the Pens from the playoffs.
Forward Josh Archilbald missed practice yesterday with a lower body injury but forward Jason Zucker returned to practice wearing a full-contact jersey and not limited by his injury, but with coach Mike Sullivan indicating his “week to week” status is unchanged. Zucker only skated with the team for about twenty minutes.
Sullivan says the Penguins know what they’re up against in the young, speedy Rangers tonight.
The coach says the Rangers are solid in goal and can put the puck in the net on the other end.
The NHL entered its Christmas roster freeze at 11:59 PM last night. It will last until December 28th at 12:01 AM. Teams cannot trade or waive players and re-assignments to minor league teams are permissible only for players recalled after December 11th. Teams may still recall players from the minors should the need arise and teams are permitted to exceed the 23-man roster limit.
The airtime for the Penguins and Rangers tonight is 6 o’clock on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel, with the puck dropping shortly after 7.
