The IUP basketball teams are both undefeated heading into the holiday break after a doubleheader sweep over West Chester last night at the KCAC.
Jack Benedict has the recap.
With number one Northwest Missouri State having lost over the weekend to Emporia State, the second-ranked IUP men should elevate to number one in the nation in the rankings released today. Coach Joe Lombardi says it’s a tremendous accomplishment.
Lombardi says Shawndale Jones and Ethan Porterfield, who have both had health issues, will have time to get stronger and be even better as IUP continues a grueling PSAC schedule starting December 30th at Millersville.
Women’s coach Craig Carey will be getting some reinforcements with the anticipated arrival of two Robert Morris transfers who will become eligible today. Jazmyne DeShields is a 5-10 sophomore from Memphis, Tennessee. She and 5-2 guard Janeira Scott of Bridgeville, Delaware, will bring with them a shot of up-tempo energy that will be most welcome by their new coach and teammates.
This is the first time ever that both IUP teams have entered the holiday break undefeated.
