BASKETBALL
The Indiana High basketball teams split their home doubleheader with Kiski Area Tuesday night. The boys fell 70-35 while the girls picked up a 59-37 win over the Cavaliers.
Jake Slebodnick has the recap from both games.
Girls coach Otto Peterson said his team’s strong defense played a pivotal role in the win.
Peterson said another component was the leadership by seniors Katie Kovalchick, Eve Fiala and Emily Madey.
Kovalchick led all scorers with 20 points in the nightcap. She said rebounding created a lot of second-chance shots.
Madey collected seven points and five rebounds. She said her rebound game is something she’s developed over the years.
The girls return to action Thursday against Hempfield. The boys are off until the St. Joseph’s Tournament on December 27th.
RIFLE
The rifle team lost to Trinity by a score of 758-23x to Trinity’s 800-68x. Top shooter for Indiana was Ava McGary with a 96-6x. Their record is 0-3 overall, 0-0 in the section. Their next competition will be at Plum on January 3.
