The Penguins yesterday put defenseman Jeff Petry on long-term injured reserve and recalled defenseman Mark Friedman and forward Drew O’Connor from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Petry was injured on Saturday against Buffalo, leaving the ice holding his left arm close to his body. The Pens have only termed it an upper body injury. Designating him for long-term IR means Petry must miss at least ten games and 24 NHL schedule days.
The Pens canceled practice yesterday. They skate in Miami against the Florida Panthers tomorrow night.

Washington star Alexander Ovechkin last night became just the third player in NHL history to reach 800 career goals. Ovechkin had a hat trick in Tuesday’s win in Chicago. He’s just one of tying Gordie Howe for second on the all-time list. Wayne Gretzky is first all-time with 894 goals.
