The Pitt Panthers women’s volleyball team tripped up number one seed and defending national champion Wisconsin in five sets to advance to the NCAA Final Four. Pitt (31-3) will play Louisville Thursday.
The Badgers, led by 6-foot-9-inch Anna Smrek, took the first set, 25-23, but the Panthers rebounded to take the next two, both by sores of 25-21. Wisconsin then took the fourth set, 25-19.
In the final set, Pitt won two straight points to break a 13-13 tie and win the match, handing Wisconsin its first loss of the season on its home court.
Courtney Buzzerio led Pitt with 18 kills, including the game-winning smash. Rachel Fairbanks had 37 assists and 16 digs.
