A local energy provider is warning its customers of a scam.
Officials with REA Energy Cooperative, Inc., announced that they were notified that someone has been impersonating an electric company’s employee asking to see their utility bills.
From REA:
REA officials remind customers that their employees do not ask to see a member’s bill. They add members are asked to not provide any personal information if they receive a visit, and ask to see REA identification, which all employees carry. Customers can also identify REA employees by their clothing with cooperative branding on it.
Anyone who encounters a person representing themselves as an REA Energy employee, and suspects it is a scam, they are asked to call the REA office at 724-349-4800 or 800-211-5667.
