FOOTBALL
Pitt defensive lineman Calijah Kancey was named yesterday a first-team Walter Camp All-American, as chosen by the 131 FBS college head coaches and sports information directors. He is Pitt’s third first-team All-American in three years, after Rashad Weaver in 2020 and Patrick Jones II last year.
Kancey had already been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, College Football Network National Defensive Tackle of the Year, and a first team All-American by CBS Sports and Pro Football Focus.
VOLLEYBALL
Pitt’s second-seeded women’s volleyball team knocked off Florida, 3-1 in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen last night and will play top-seeded Wisconsin, a five-set winner over Penn State, on Saturday night in the Elite Eight.
The Panthers won their 30th match of the season, making it four straight 30-win seasons, excepting the pandemic season of 2020. It’s their third straight Elite Eight appearance.
