Winners of four straight games, the Penguins head to Philadelphia today to faceoff against the Flyers. The team did put in a brief practice yesterday before heading home for Thanksgiving dinner.
The Pens have a longstanding preference for skating four forwards and defenseman Kris Letang on the top power play unit, but coach Mike Sullivan on Wednesday night used defenseman Jeff Petry along with Letang on the number one power play, replacing forward Bryan Rust. Sullivan is hoping the extra “D” on the blue line might cut down on the opponents’ shorthanded opportunities.
Winger Jake Guentzel says it should not have a substantial impact on his approach to the man advantage.
Petry says his duties on the power play are pretty basic.
The Penguins elevated skating skills and development coach Ty Hennes to assistant coach before Wednesday’s game. Hennes is known for his high energy approach to coaching and innovative ideas, while also using his knowledge as a chiropractor to help players rehab from injuries. Since 2019 he has also been behind the bench along with the other coaches during games. He is grateful for the promotion.
Tonight’s game faces off at 5:30. The airtime on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel is 4:30.
