The Penguins are back on the ice tonight at PPG Paints Arena, taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs, a team they beat in Toronto, 4-2 last Friday.
The team practiced again yesterday with forward Teddy Blueger working the second line in place of Evgeni Malkin, who was not on the ice due to an excused absence. Coach Mike Sullivan said Blueger has been working in a full practice capacity for a while now but is not yet cleared to return to game action after suffering an undisclosed injury on September 29th.
Blueger’s absence may also have something to do with the Penguin’s salary cap. They would have to clear space under the cap for him to get back into the lineup.
Sullivan also talked about other players yesterday, including Malkin, who he says is playing “inspired” hockey.
The coach talked about the play of Marcus Pettersson, who was moved to the top defensive pairing with Kris Letang last week and has played well. Sullivan said Pettersson has been his most consistent defenseman this season.
The Pens and Maple Leafs face off shortly after 7 tonight. The airtime on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel is at 6. The Maple Leafs are expected to start ex-Penguin Matt Murray in goal.
