Both the IUP men’s and women’s basketball teams grabbed wins on Saturday, the men beating Concord at Clarion University and the women at home against Lincoln.
For the men, Shawndale Jones scored 21 points and Dave Morris and Tomiwa Sulaiman each had 15 as the Crimson Hawks overcame a five-point halftime deficit to win, 77-60. IUP put together a 13-0 run in the early stages of the second half to take a commanding lead.
The Hawks will take on Winston-Salem State this afternoon at 1:00 (12:45 airtime on 92.5 FM U92).
In the women’s game at the KCAC, IUP raced to an 18-2 advantage and cruised to victory, 70-42. Teirra Preston dominated in the low post as she scored 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and pulled down 14 rebounds. Maria Cerro added 17 points and Kiera Baughman scored 14 as IUP raised its record to 2-0.
