Thanks to strong ticket sales and to a lengthy stretch where no one has hit the jackpot, the Powerball multi-state lottery game’s top prize has reached a record-setting level.
The estimated value of tonight’s Powerball drawing is now $1.6 billion, which is not only the highest prize ever offered in the 30-year history of the game, but also the world’s largest lottery prize ever offered. PA Lottery officials say that this will be the 40th drawing since the jackpot was last won on August 3rd in Pennsylvania. It’s not quite the longest winless streak, as the longest run for that was 41 drawings before the jackpot was won in October of 2021 with a $696 million jackpot win.
In Pennsylvania alone, this jackpot run has generated over $114.3 million in sales, which in turn creates a profit of over $45.7 million which will benefit older Pennsylvanians. Lottery experts estimate that tickets were sold at the rate of over 4800 tickets a minute on Friday.
Powerball ticket sales close at 10 PM tonight. By the way, the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot, that is to match all 5 white balls and the Powerball, are 1 in 292 million.
Good Luck!
