Carter Payne scored on a header from a corner kick from Jackson Wirick and Dylan Dishong scored his 40th goal of the year later in the first half off a deflected goalmouth pass as the United Lions shut out defending champion Richland 2-0 to win its first District 6 championship.
Andrew Payne made 11 saves, including a brilliant punch block over the net frame in the first half and a stop of a breakaway at the 10:30 mark of the second half. The Lions were outshot in the game, 19-14, and Richland also had the edge in shots on goal, 11-8, but the United defense was stout and Andrew Payne was impenetrable.
The 15-3-1 Lions will play the Class A champion out of the WPIAL next Tuesday. The WPIAL crowns its champion tomorrow night when number eight Charleroi plays number two Winchester Thurston at Highmark Field in Pittsburgh.
