While the Steelers continued their pattern of dinks and dunks, the Philadelphia Eagles’ line gave plenty of protection to Jalen Hurts, enabling his receivers to get down the field and make plays. And they certainly did. Hurts threw three touchdown passes to AJ Brown, all of them over 27 yards long, and he hit Brown for a 43-yard reception ahead of yet another score, as the Eagles easily outdistanced the Steelers, 35-13.
Pittsburgh enters its bye week at 2-and-6 while the Eagles are the only undefeated team in the NFL, at 7-0.
Coach Mike Tomlin says the Eagles’ ability to throw down the field on the Steelers’ defense was a killer.
Tomlin and Steelers players were frustrated by yet another week when they were plagued by penalties, especially the five-yard variety for mental mistakes like illegal formation, ineligible player down field, illegal procedure, and lining up in the neutral zone.
Pickett was 25-of-38 for 191 yards with no touchdowns, a lost fumble, an interception, six sacks, and he was hit eleven other times as his porous line failed the offense once again. He says the Steelers weren’t mentally ready to play.
The rookie quarterback says they are running out of time to turn the season around.
The only injury of note yesterday was cornerback James Pierre, who was being evaluated for a foot injury.
With the bye week, the Steelers may be getting some reinforcements before they play next on November 13th against New Orleans. Linebacker TJ Watt could be back for the first time since he was hurt in the season’s first week. Safety Damontae Kazee is eligible to return after being hurt in the final preseason game and then suspended two games by the league. Kicker Chris Boswell suffered a groin injury and missed yesterday’s game. The extra week of rest will help him.
