The Penguins fell behind Columbus, 2-0, Saturday night, but rebounded to down the Blue Jackets, 6-3, in the opener of a long road trip.
Skating without forward Jake Guentzel, who missed the game after taking a slap shot to the head in Thursday’s win over Los Angeles, the Pens stumbled out of the gate, giving up first period goals to Boone Jenner off a Kris Letang turnover in the defensive zone and a short-handed goal to Jack Roslovic after another Letang turnover on a Penguins power play.
But Josh Archibald put the Penguins on the board with a wrist shot in the second period, and after the Blue Jackets’ Kent Johnson fired a wrister through Tristan Jarry’s five hole to make it 3-1, the Pens scored the next five goals, on a slap shot by defenseman Jan Rutta and a tip-in by Danton Heinen to tie it in the second period, and then a one-timer in the third by Sidney Crosby off a feed from Brian Dumoulin, a rebound by Heinen for his second goal, and a rebound backhander by Brock McGinn to close out the scoring.
The Pens continue their five-game road trip on Monday at Edmonton.
