Students in grades 9 to 12 are encouraged to take part in a contest from PennDOT.
The sixth annual Innovations Challenge is going on now. The contest asks students to use their problem solving, creative and strategic thinking skills to solve real-world transportation problems. PennDOT Representative Alexis Campbell says this year’s challenge will ask students to tackle the problem of a shortage of parking for commercial trucks.
Winners at the regional level will be invited to present their solutions to the PennDOT Secretary and a panel of judges to determine the state-wide winner. A prize of $4000 will be given to the winning team. The contest is also being seen by PennDOT officials as a way to get some interested in a transportation-related career.
