The Penguins finalized their roster for the 2022-23 season earlier this week in anticipation of Thursday’s opener against Arizona.
Eighteen of the 22 players return to the team this season. Among the plethora of returners, a few new faces will join the Penguins to open the season. Those being forwards Josh Archibald and Ryan Poehling, and defensemen Jeff Petry and Jan Rutta.
Sidney Crosby is the Penguins’ longest-tenured player for the sixth consecutive season, surpassing Hall-of-Famer Mario Lemieux for most seasons in franchise history. Joining Crosby are battery mates Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang, who return for their 17th seasons.
Puck drop for the Penguins’ season opener tomorrow night at PPG Paints Arena is 7 p.m. Airtime of U92.5 FM and U92radio.com is 6 p.m.
NHL
The NHL season officially got underway last night and two teams came out on top in their respective games.
The New York Rangers took down the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-1, thanks to two goals by Mike Zibanejad. Barclay Goodrow netted the third goal for the Rangers. Steven Stamkos scored the only goal for Tampa Bay.
In the other game, the Los Vegas Golden Knights squeaked by the Los Angeles Kings with a 4-3 win. The Knights scored four goals in the third to come back and win.
Day two of the season features six matchups.
