BOYS GOLF
The Indiana boys high school golf team came up short in their effort to make it to the WPIAL Team Finals on Tuesday at Beaver Valley Golf Club.
Trevor Todd and Harrison Martineau led Indiana shooting 77 and 78, respectively. Gabe Nettleton and Adam Cowburn each shot 87, Hunter Martin shot 97, and Caden Force shot 100. Indiana shot 426 on the day.
Pittsburgh Central Catholic placed first, shooting 375. The top 3 teams from each of the two semi-final sites advance to the WPIAL Finals on Thursday at Cedarbrook Golf Course. Indiana finished the season with a 10-5 overall record, 6-4 in the section (2nd place), and made it to the team playoffs for the 2nd time in the last 3 years.
Junior Harrison Martineau will represent Indiana at the PIAA AAA golf tournament next Monday and Tuesday at the Penn State Golf Courses.
GIRLS TENNIS
The Indiana High Girls Tennis team drew the No. 6 seed in the WPIAL team championships and opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over No. 11 Winchester Thurston. Tess Kuzneski trailed in her first set, 5-0, but came back to win that and her next set. Katarina Medvetz dominated with 6-2 and 6-1 singles wins.
Kate Lehman and Eve Kuzneski won in doubles action with back-to-back 6-1 wins. Grace Cook and Johanna Welch won in three sets with 4-6, 6-0, and 6-4 scores. Indiana takes on third seeded Beaver today in day two of the WPIAL championships.
VOLLEYBALL
At the Homerdome yesterday, the Homer-Center Wildcats swept the River Valley Panthers in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-12.
Ali Schmidt led the way with nine kills, while Meegan Williams had seven. Macy Sardone had 30 assists. Anna Cutshall had 23 digs and three service aces, while Ashlyn Kerr had eight aces.
West Shamokin took down United in both varsity and JV play. The Wolves’ varsity squad won 3-1, while JV blanked the Lions, 2-0.
BOYS SOCCER
Conemaugh Township edged the United Lions, 3-2, on the pitch.
And the Cambria Heights Highlanders beat the Northern Cambria Colts, 6-1.
