The MLB playoffs resume on Tuesday with all four division series’ getting underway. The action gets started in Atlanta when the Braves face the Phillies, who are in the NLDS for the first time since 2011. The Mariners and Astros will square off in Houston, followed by the Guardians versus Yankees in New York. The Padres will meet the Dodgers in the final game of the night.
The Yankees could head into tonight’s game without a couple of big players. The team announced over the weekend that LHP Aroldis Chapman will not be on the playoff roster after he failed to show up to a mandatory workout on Friday, according to general manager Brian Cashman. The Yankees are also still determining if infielder DJ LeMahieu will be playing in the American League Division Series. LeMahieu has been dealing with toe inflammation throughout the second half of the regular season. He returned from the injured list in the final week of the regular season, but manager Aaron Boone is unsure if the 34-year-old will be ready to go for the ALDS.
The Braves are making a long-term commitment to their rookie pitcher. Spencer Strider agreed to a six-year, 75-million dollar deal with a 22-million dollar club option and a five-million dollar buyout for the 2029 season. The 23-year-old would have been eligible for free agency after the 2027 season. Strider became the first Braves rookie in the Modern Era to have a 200-strikeout season, and is the first MLB pitcher to record 200 strikeouts and allow fewer than 100 hits.
