A member of the Pitt Basketball team is now facing charges of assault.
Reports say that 18-year-old Dior Johnson was charged with aggravated and simple assault, unlawful restraint and other crimes related to an incident that started in the late night hours of September 5th at an apartment on Forbes Avenue. The alleged victim said that Johnson got angry with her after getting his phone wet and slapped her in the face hard enough to make her face turn red and puffy. He had left her apartment just after midnight with her cell phone but came back after 4:00 AM to return it. Around 8:30, the victim and Johnson got into a verbal argument and she tried to leave, but he reportedly did not let her leave, and the argument turned physical with Johnson allegedly punching her multiple times. Johnson also allegedly ran after her with scissors, took the phone, hung it up and threw it at her.
Pitt’s athletic department issued a news release saying that Johnson is now suspended from all team activities pending the resolution of legal charges.
