Indiana junior Harrison Martineau fired a one-over par 71 yesterday at the WPIAL Triple-A tournament at the Allegheny Country Club, and he earned his way into the PIAA State Golf Tournament at Penn State next week. His score was the second-best of the day and combined with his 77 from last week’s first round at Champion Lakes, placed him fourth overall.
Martineau scrambled in the round, bogeying five of the first seven holes before catching fire and playing the remaining 11 holes in four-under. The turning point was on the par three 8th, where he hit his tee shot inside of three feet and then birdied the hole. He made it two birdies in a row on the 9th.
Indiana’s other WPIAL finalist, Trevor Todd, tied for 21st place, shooting an 87 yesterday after he shot a 76 last week.
The top fourteen finishers made it into the state tournament. Pittsburgh Central Catholic’s Rocco Salvitti was the WPIAL individual titlist, with a combined score of two-under.
