The Pirates endured a rough start and a 38-minute rain delay in the middle of the game to knock off the Cincinnati Reds last night.
Joe Block has the story.
The Pirates will send Mitch Keller [5-12, 3.99 ERA] to the mound tonight for the second games of the series. He will face the Reds’ Hunter Green [4-13, 4.91 ERA]. It’s a 6:10 airtime on WCCS.
The Pirates continued their late-season roster shuffle, surprisingly designating Michael Chavis and Greg Allen for assignment. Chavis hit .229 this season with 16 doubles, 14 home runs, and 49 RBIs in 129 games, 82 of which were at first base, where his athleticism was an asset. Allen hit .186 in 46 games in the outfield.
The Bucs added infielder Miguel Andujar and catcher Jose Godoy to the roster and both started last night. Andujar was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly.
Injured starter JT Brubaker threw live batting practice yesterday and said he wants one last start for the Pirates this year. His battery mate was another injured player, catcher Roberto Perez, who had season-ending hamstring surgery in May.
