PITT FOOTBALL
Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi reacted yesterday to Georgia Tech firing its football coach, Geoff Collins, just days ahead of the two teams meeting at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday night. Narduzzi said his thoughts were with Collins and his family.
As to the game, Narduzzi says there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Georgia Tech program and that makes it hard for Pitt to prepare.
Narduzzi says his team will focus on the fact that Saturday night’s game is Pitt’s first conference game and they’d better be ready.
Saturday’s game will be on WCCS, with the pregame getting underway at 6 PM.
PITT BASKETBALL
Pitt basketball coach Jeff Capel opened preseason practices yesterday at the Petersen Events Center with seven new faces on the team, marking the second straight offseason when he’s had to rebuild his roster.
Capel welcomed freshman guard Dior Johnson, former Colgate guard Nelly Cummings, former Marquette guard Greg Elliott, ex-Mississippi forward Blake Hinson, Finnish center Fede Federiko, and freshmen Guillermo and Jorge Diaz Graham, twin brothers from the Canary Islands who stand 7-feet and 6-feet-11-inches tall.
They join a group highlighted by returning starters John Hughley, Jamarius Burton, and Nike Sibande.
Capel says it will be important to blend in the new guys with the returnees.
Pitt opens the season November 7th at home against Tennessee-Martin. They’ll play exhibition games against Clarion on October 22nd and against Edinboro on November 2nd.
