The Pirates got another good outing from rookie Luis Ortiz but the bullpen and the defense failed them again on Sunday.
Joe Block has the story.
 :
Pirates manager Derek Shelton continues to be impressed by Luis Ortiz, who pitched most of this season for Altoona.
Shelton likes the potential of his starting rotation.
The Pirates open a three-game series against the Reds tonight at PNC Park. Right-hander Roansy Contreras [5-5, 3.68 ERA] faces Reds righty Chase Anderson [2-3, 5.21 ERA]. The airtime on WCCS is 6:10.
The Pirates have claimed infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar off waivers from the Yankees. The 27-year-old was second in the voting for American League Rookie of the Year in 2018 but has been plagued by a shoulder injury since. In parts of six seasons with the Yanks, he hit .273 with 35 home runs. This season, hit .229 with one home run and 8 RBIs in 27 games.
