The Pirates put together their most complete series of the year with the offense, defense, and base running all contributing to a win and a series sweep over the Reds.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Derek Shelton says the Pirates played well in all aspects of the game.
Shelton says hitting coach Andy Haines has emphasized quality at-bats, especially when hitting with two strikes.
The Bucs head to New York to play their second straight four-game series, this time against the Mets. Last week, the Mets took two out of three from the Pirates at PNC Park. JT Brubaker [3-11, 4.36 ERA] pitches for the Pirates against Mets right-hander Carlos Carrasco [14-6, 3.80 ERA]. It’s a 6:45 airtime on WCCS.
ALTOONA CURVE
Matt Gorski had three hits and Kyle Nicolas threw 5-and-two-thirds shutout innings as the Curve blasted Reading, 8-0. Liover Peguero and Lolo Sanchez each hit home runs and Endy Rodriguez and Nick Gonzalez each had two hits.
Unfortunately for the Curve, Erie beat Richmond in extra innings, and with four games to play and a 3-and-a-half game deficit, an Erie win or an Altoona loss will eliminate the Curve from playoff contention.
Quinn Priester pitches for the Curve tonight.
