Coach Mike Tomlin says he is “encouraged” after tests on linebacker TJ Watt, who suffered a pectoral muscle injury on Sunday against the Bengals, and the Steelers “will continue to look at the situation and gain opinions and do what is appropriate.”
At his weekly news conference, Tomlin would only commit to Watt missing this week’s game against the Patriots. Watt had an MRI on Monday and the Steelers are said to be soliciting second and third opinions before they decide how much time he might miss.
Tomlin says Malik Reed and Jamir Jones will man Watt’s left outside slot on Sunday, but it’s about more than missing Watt.
Tomlin also said running back Najee Harris is determined to play this week after suffering a foot injury.
The coach said that after reviewing the video of the game, he sees a lot of room for improvement, and not just on the playing field.
The Steelers yesterday signed former Washington outside linebacker Ryan Anderson to the practice squad.
