The Steelers released their depth chart for Sunday’s season opener against Cincinnati and in doing so, they announced that Mitch Trubisky will be the starting quarterback. But in a surprise, they also listed Mason Rudolph as the second-team QB ahead of first-round draft choice Kenny Pickett. Coach Mike Tomlin will be asked about it today at his weekly news conference.
Among other contested positions from training camp, Kevin Dotson was listed first at left guard, Devin Bush at left inside linebacker, and Ahkello Witherspoon at left cornerback. Steelers players have also elected five captains: defensive end Cam Heyward, linebacker TJ Watt, Trubisky, running back Najee Harris, and special teamer Miles Killebrew.
Heyward said being a team captain is a big responsibility.
Trubisky was honored to be chosen by his teammates, and said he’s pleased that he fit in so well so quickly with his new team.
The Steelers added veteran defensive backs Andrew Adams and Josh Jackson, along with linebacker Delontae Scott to the practice squad.
