On the day they inducted 19 former players into the Pirates Hall of Fame, the Pirates put on another performance that fell far short of Hall of Fame status.
The Pirates lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-1, Saturday night. The Bucs squandered another solid pitching stint by Roansy Contreras, who allowed just one run in six innings of work. His successor on the mound, Duane Underwood, allowed three more runs in less than an inning, and that proved to be too much for the Pirates offense to make up.
Oneil Cruz led the Pirates with two hits out of the leadoff position. He knocked in Jason Delay with the Pirates’ only run when he tripled in the third inning.
Pittsburgh, which has lost three games in a row and eight of its last 10, tries to salvage one win out of the three-game series when it takes on the Blue Jays today at 12:05. The Ben Cherington Show begins at 11:05 am on WCCS FM 101.1 and AM 1160.
