After signing Todd Reirden to a two-year contract extension this month and elevating him from assistant coach to associate coach, then signing assistant Mike Velluci to a two-year extension, the Penguins completed their coaching staff yesterday by announcing the signing of the head coach, Mike Sullivan, to a three-year contract extension that will carry him through the 2026-’27 season. He has two years left on his current contract.
Sullivan says the opportunity to continue coaching the Penguins’ “big three” of Sidney Crosby, and the newly re-signed Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang is a privilege.
Sullivan says coaching is a passion for him.
The coach says the players, particularly the big three, are committed to making the Penguins winners.
Sullivan says the Penguins success is a tribute to the team’s organizational strength.
Sullivan’s 297 regular season wins are the most in Penguins team history. He won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and ’17.
