The Pirates beat the Brewers thanks to timely hitting and a bases-loaded walk to Rodolfo Castro that brought home the winning run.
Joe Block has the story.
The series concludes this afternoon. It will be a 1:45 airtime, 2:10 first pitch from Milwaukee on WCCS. Zach Thompson [3-10, 5.3 ERA] will start for the Pirates against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta [4-3, 3.69 ERA].
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona second baseman Nick Gonzalez was 3-for-4 and drove in four runs, three of them on a double with the bases loaded in the 6th inning, as the Curve rallied for a 7-5 win over Akron. Henry Davis returned from his injury rehab and had two hits and Liover Peguero worked two bases-loaded walks for the Curve.
Game Two of the series is tonight at PNG Field. Aaron Shortridge will start for the Curve.
With Henry Davis back in Altoona, catcher Blake Sabol was promoted to Indianapolis. Third baseman Jared Triolo was placed on the injured list with a knee injury suffered on Sunday and slugging outfielder Matt Gorski was sent to Bradenton to begin a rehab assignment. Gorski has 23 home runs this season but has been on the 60-day injured list since July 6th with a quadriceps injury.
GREENSBORO
Pirates minor league infielder Francisco Acuna has been suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a performance enhancing substance. He will not be eligible to return until mid-June next season. He’s played mostly at shortstop for High-A Greensboro, hitting .271 this season. The 22-year-old Acuna signed with the Bucs as an international free agent in 2016.
