It is NFL cutdown day, when rosters must be trimmed to 53 players by 4 PM.
The Steelers started the day with 77 players on the roster, so they need to cut or place on injured reserve 24. In addition to those to be cut today, others may go in the ensuing days as the team scans the waiver wires for players let go by other teams, especially along the offensive line.
The Steelers had the day off yesterday after their Sunday win over Detroit in the preseason finale. The season opener for the Steelers is September 11th at defending AFC champion Cincinnati.
