A weekend that started hopefully ended miserably for the Pirates, who dropped two out of three to the Reds.

Manager Derek Shelton says you can’t win baseball games when you give away so many free passes onto the basepaths.
Shelton says the Pirates has at least started to hit with runners in scoring position.
The Pirates open a three-game series tonight against Atlanta. The Bucs will send Roansy Contreras [3-3, 4.02 ERA] to the mound to face Braves righty Jake Odorizzi [4-5, 4.15 ERA]. It’s a 6:40 airtime on WCCS.
Shelton said after the game that third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes is feeling much better and will step up his baseball activities in hopes of getting back to the lineup soon. Hayes put in a full workout on Saturday and is eligible to return from the ten-day injured list tomorrow. He suffered a mid-back strain in the Arizona series on August 12th.
The Pirates needed a fresh bullpen arm and yesterday recalled left-hander Cam Vieaux from Indianapolis, sending down righty Yohan Ramirez.

Altoona’s game against Harrisburg was rained out yesterday and with the season winding down the game will not be rescheduled. The Curve will open a six-game series at Bowie tomorrow night
