The Pirates front office is expressing its confidence in the team manager, Derek Shelton.
In an interview on Friday, GM Ben Cherington said that Shelton is under contract for 2023 and will return next season to lead the team. Cherington said he liked working with him, and appreciated the effort that he is putting in each day.
Also during that interview, Cherington said that the Pirates moves to build the farm system to become one of the top 10 farm systems in Major League Baseball did mean sacrificing other home-grown all-stars like Josh Bell, Starling Marte, and others, but he said that many of the moves were his fault.
