For the second straight day, the Steelers flip-flopped their practice schedule due to the threat of rain, suiting up in pads for the morning session and having a walk-through in the afternoon. Coach Mike Tomlin said he still prefers the intensity of practicing in pads in the heat of the day, but the team was still ready to go early.
Tomlin said it’s still a bit early to hone in on Saturday’s preseason opener against Seattle, because there is a lot of development work left to do this week.
The breakout star of the training camp has been second-round draft pick George Pickens, who made two more sensational catches yesterday. Tomlin was asked what Pickens needs to improve upon in order to help the Steelers.
Najee Harris remained off the practice field with a sore foot and backup running back Benny Snell suffered a knee injury yesterday. Injured linebacker Alex Highsmith and guard Kevin Dotson both were missing from practice for a second straight day.
The Steelers waived linebacker Ulysses Gilbert III with an injury designation and claimed edge rusher Hamilcar Rashed off waivers from the Jets.
