The Pirates’ bats finally broke through against the Orioles midway through yesterday’s game.

Outfielder Greg Allen says it took a while, but the Pirates’ hitters finally figured things out.
The Pirates yesterday released outfielder Jake Marisnick, a defensive specialist who hit .234 with two home runs and six RBIs this year, but has spent time on the injured list with thumb and toe ailments. The Bucs claimed corner infielder Kevin Padlo off waivers from the Mariners and sent him to Indianapolis. And they added catcher Taylor Davis to the taxi squad.
The Pirates’ ten-game road trip continues tonight in Arizona. The Pirates will start Tyler Beede [1-1, 3.89 ERA] in another bullpen game. He will be looking to rebound from a rough outing the last time out last Wednesday against the Brewers. The Diamondbacks will start Zac Gallen [6-2, 3.31 ERA]. It’s a 9:15 airtime, a 9:40 first pitch on WCCS.
The team also announced the 19 members of their inaugural Pirates Hall of Fame class, which will be honored on Saturday, September 3rd before a game against Toronto. The Hall of Fame display will be located on PNC Park’s Riverwalk outside the stadium. The initial Pirates Hall of Fame cast includes 16 members who are also in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The three who are not in Cooperstown are Steve Blass, Dave Parker, and Danny Murtaugh.

Altoona continued its struggles yesterday, falling to Akron, 6-4. First Baseman Aaron Shackelford was 3-for-3 with an RBI double and a two-run home run, and shortstop Liover Peguero was 2-for-3. The Curve are 3-12 since the All-Star break and lost five out of six in the series with Akron. They will have today off and open a six-game series at Binghampton tomorrow night.
