Even though training camp continued for the Steelers on Tuesday, everyone’s attention was inside the team’s conference room as General Manager Omar Khan held one of his first media sessions yesterday.
While topics of discussion varied, conversation focused on the hold-in of wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who missed practice again on Tuesday.
Khan said that the team is taking the approach of looking at younger players during this time.
Khan also said that “hold-ins” are becoming more frequent across the league.
He also said that the team has been in contact with Johnson’s agent about his contract status, but no advancements have come at this time.
Khan did address the growth of the younger players on the team, including the remodeled wide receiver core. He said the Steelers have always had success in drafting wideouts.
Some highlights from practice yesterday include a prolific day by Kenny Pickett, who worked with the second team offense, while Mason Rudolph was bumped to the third team.
Head Coach Mike Tomlin said running back Najee Harris can be described as “day-to-day” as he deals with a foot injury. Others in the day-to-day category include Pat Freiermuth, Levi Wallace and Chase Claypool.
Tomlin adds that Tyson Alualu (PUP list), Larry Ogunjobi and Minkah Fitzpatrick are “inching closer towards participation.”
Training camp continues today.
