Leave it to Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi to liven the atmosphere anytime there’s a microphone nearby.
At yesterday’s ACC Football Media Day, Narduzzi said Pitt would have won the Peach Bowl if Kenny Pickett had not opted out of playing, claiming Michigan State “gets their butts kicked in” if Pickett plays and the Spartans would probably have also lost if Nick Patti, the backup quarterback who started in Pickett’s place, had not gotten injured on the Panthers’ first possession. Patti broke his collarbone diving into the end zone for a touchdown on that drive.
Narduzzi also downplayed the supposed dominance of the Big Ten and SEC, saying that if Pitt were playing in the Big Ten instead of the ACC, they’d “win it every year.” There are no Big Ten teams on Pitt’s schedule this year.
ESPN announced yesterday that it will bring its College Game Day signature program to Pitt for the season-opening “Backyard Brawl” game against West Virginia on Thursday, September 1st. Pitt opens training camp on August 1st.
