With training camp at Saint Vincent just a week away, the Steelers yesterday signed former Jaguars defensive lineman Doug Costin to a one-year contract. Costin has played 13 NFL games over two seasons, starting nine in his rookie year after signing as an undrafted rookie in 2020. He played his college football at Miami of Ohio.
Former Steelers number one draft choice Charles Johnson has died at the age of 50. The 1994 17th overall draft pick out of Colorado, Johnson played five seasons in Pittsburgh with his best season being in 1996, when he caught 60 passes for 1,008 yards and three touchdowns. He also played for the Eagles, Patriots, and Bills, winning a Super Bowl with New England in 2001 before retiring as a Bill after the 2002 season.
