The Penguins locked in one of many free agents this afternoon.
General Manager Ron Hextall announced in a news release shortly after 1:30 this afternoon that the team and goalie Casey DeSmith reached an agreement on a two-year contract.
The 30-year-old DeSmith went 11-6-5 with a goals-against-average of 2.61 in 26 games with the Penguins last season. He also tied his career-high with three shutouts over the course of the season, one came during his best game on April 21 when he recorded 52 saves against the Boston Bruins.
DeSmith’s contract runs through the 2023-24 season and carries an average annual value of $1.8 million.
