After a 1-7 road trip, the Pirates return home for a seven game series, starting tonight against another top National League team.
Joe Block previews tonight’s opener against the Giants.
The Giants are 35-27 and sit third in the NL West, four-and-a-half games behind the Padres and four games in back of the Dodgers. The Pirates are 25-37 and in third place in the NL Central. The Cardinals lead the Brewers by two games and the Pirates by ten-and-a-half. After the three games against San Francisco, the Bucs will welcome the Chicago Cubs to PNC Park.
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona lost to Erie last night, 4-2. Starter Luis Ortiz gave up all four runs over six innings. He had given up just one run through six but in the seventh he surrendered three more without getting an out. Outfielder Lolo Sanchez hit his third homer run for the Curve, which will continue the series tonight with right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski on the mound.
The Curve officially announced the promotion of Mike Burrows to Triple-A Indianapolis and replaced him on the roster with another highly-touted pitcher, 2019 first round draft choice Quinn Priester, who has made two rehab starts in Class A in his return from an oblique injury suffered in spring training. Priester will get the start on Sunday in the series finale against Erie
