Marion Center Legion Baseball announced earlier today that a pre-game ceremony to honor long-time team manager and president Don Stitt will take place prior to the game against Punsxutawney Post 62 on June 9.
Manager Nick Pinizzotto, who played under Stitt during his Junior Legion career and was part of the 1989 Western Regional Championship team, said in a news release “much of how I manage our current team stems from what I learned from Don all those years ago and we’re excited to recognize his impressive career.”
Stitt is the longest-tenured and winningest team coach. He took his team to the Western Regional eight times, five coming between 1987 and 1991, and the Pennsylvania State Tournement five times. His 1989 team won the Western Regional Championship and the 2002 team was the state runner-up.
He was inducted into the Pennsylvania American Legion Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 and recently retired after 35 years of service to the team.
The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m.
