Several people were sentenced yesterday in Indiana County Court, including a man who was charged with indecent assault and corruption of minors.
Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco sentenced 44-year-old Jeremy Johnson of Homer City was ordered to serve up to a day less than two years in Indiana County jail for each count. For the corruption of minors charge, Johnson was also ordered to serve two years of probation upon his release. The charges were filed in connection with incidents in February of 2016, when the victim, a friend of Johnson’s family, said on the day of the assault that the victim and the defendant’s families were spending time together mourning the loss of a family member. Later in the day, Johnson touched the victim in an unwanted fashion several times, despite telling him to stop. After Johnson moved out of state, the victim reported the crime to police.
Also sentenced yesterday was 26-year-old Austin Hopkins of Saltsburg, who pleaded guilty to a charge of illegal possession of a firearm in connection with an incident on May 27th of last year. Police at the time said that he was involved in a physical altercation with his brother when he allegedly picked up a knife and chased him into the street. The brother, who suffered a minor injury in the incident, later called police. When police were searching the area, they found Hopkins in a nearby home. He was arrested without incident. Police found a fully-loaded 12-gauge shotgun wrapped in a hooded sweatshirt at his house. Charges of harassment, simple assault and terroristic threats were not prosecuted as part of his plea deal. Hopkins was also sentenced in two cases for possession of drug paraphernalia and a charge of contraband possession in a fourth case. He will serve up to seven years in state prison.
