With Memorial Day marking the unofficial start of the summer travel season, PennDOT in partnership with the Pennsylvania State Police and the Highway Safety Network are urging motorists to drive safe with the Click It or Ticket campaign.
In 2021, 12,672 crashes occurred in Pennsylvania where at least one occupant in a car wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, leading to approximately 378 deaths. Troopers also said that they investigated 844 crashes over last year’s Memorial Day weekend, which turned up eight deaths and 183 injuries.
In addition, 1,025 individuals were cited last year for not wearing a seat belt and 144 tickets were issued for not securing children in safety seats, and they remind drivers that seat fitting stations for children can be found at psp.pa.gov.
Along with seatbelt enforcement, state troopers and local police officers will be out in full force over the weekend conducting sobriety checkpoints.
The Click It or Ticket campaign runs through June 5.
