If you are driving along Oakland Avenue, you may have noticed that there are several American flags set up near the Oakland Cemetery. This is part of an effort to pay tribute to those who served our country that is headed up by the Indiana Midday Rotary.
The annual “Flags for Heroes” tribute started in 2018 and featured flags that were purchased and dedicated to those living and dead who served our country in the armed forces. The original location for that tribute was in front of St. Andrew’s Village along Indian Springs Road, and has now moved to the area in front of the Elkin Mausoleum in the Oakland Cemetery. The honorees were nominated by citizens in the Indiana Community. Each flag will also contain a medallion that names the honoree and the person who nominated them.
An opening ceremony for the Flags for Heroes installation will be held tonight at 6:00. The flags will be up until Flag Day, June 14th.
