The Pirates were able to snap their three-game losing streak against a familiar face last night at PNC Park, beating the Colorado Rockies, 2-1.

Starter J.T. Brubaker had another quality outing for the Bucs last night, allowing just one unearned run and tallying four strikeouts over 6.2 innings pitched. He’s had quite a turnaround after a rough stretch of starts dating back to last season. After finishing April with a 6.20 ERA, Brubaker nearly cut it in half in May, bringing it down to a 3.22 ERA.
Game two between the Pirates and Rockies is tonight. Kyle Freeland (1-4, 4.85 ERA) will start for Colorado. Roansy Contreras (1-0, 2.53 ERA) will start for the Pirates. Airtime is 6:10 p.m. on WCCS 101.1 FM and AM 1160.
The Pirates officially announced last night that they have selected the contract of RHP Yerry De Los Santos from Class AAA Indianapolis. De Los Santos went 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA in 12 games with the Indians this season.
To make room on the active and 40-man rosters, RHP Bryse Wilson was optioned to Indianapolis, while SS Kevin Newman was transferred to the 60-day injured list. His transfer comes after experiencing a hamstring injury while rehabbing a pre-existing groin injury.
While they have not officially announced it yet, all signs are pointing to the Pirates promoting No. 5 prospect RHP Roansy Contreras for tonight’s game. Contreras last pitched for Indianapolis last Tuesday.
Speaking of, MLB Pipeline released an updated list of its Top 100 MLB Prospects yesterday and one Pirates prospect experienced a significant jump on the list.
The Bucs’ No. 1 prospect Nick Gonzales remains at No. 18, while last year’s No. 1 overall draft pick Henry Davis moved into the Top 20. Oneil Cruz moved up one spot to No. 22, RHP Quinn Priester bumped down one spot to No. 51, and Contreras remained at No. 67.
Infielder Liover Peguero experienced the biggest jump, moving up 13 spots and leapfrogging Contreras to No. 62.
