On Monday night, the Indiana School Board voted 6-2 to approve a new agreement with the Indiana Area Educators Association.
Details on the agreement will be released to the public tomorrow. Board member Cinda Brode was one of the two who voted against the agreement, saying that the economy was not right for the taxpayers in the district in the face of inflation, the war with Ukraine, and many local financial problems including declining enrollment at IUP and the uncertain future of the coal fired power plants.
Terry Kerr was the other board member who voted against the agreement. Dr. Sue Reig said she had a different perspective on the issue, being a former educator in the district. She said that the teachers earn every cent of their pay as they do more than just teach.
On a related note, the board voted 7-1 to approve a memorandum of understanding with the IAEA. Brode was the only one who voted against it.
In other business, board President Walter Schroth said the board is seeking someone to take over the unexpired term of Tamara Leeper, who resigned last month. Those interested should send a resume to the district office.
